3-day ASEAN Workshop on Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)

The workshop aimed to enhance a mutual technical perspective on the value of SAF to decarbonize aviation now, on the necessary enablers to scale up the uptake of SAF in South-East Asia, and to facilitate establishing partnerships among interested parties. It will set the marking stone for additional activities to come under the EU-SEA CCCA CORSIA project on SAF, tailored around the feedback gathered throughout the workshop.

This workshop aimed to support DGCA Indonesia and its stakeholders to become familiar with ICAO Doc 9988, 3rd edition and to reflect the updated information into State Action Plan for the reduction of CO2 emissions from international aviation to be submitted to ICAO. To scale up the quality of mitigation measures as part of the State Action Plan, opportunities and dependencies linked to the deployment of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) were also presented.
Above 80 participants from the DGCA, Ministry of Transportation, Airlines, Fuel Provider, ANS & Airport Provider attended the event active & collaboratively.

Remote Support and work was conducted during this period of time to facilitate revision of the baseline reflecting the measured data as collected through ICAO forms on fuel used, RTK and ATK is pivotal to comply with ICAO Doc 9988 requirements. These session were focused to support CORSIA actors and focal points in the creation of the baseline that is pivotal and specific requirement of SAP.

Bilateral meeting focused to create a State Action Plan (SAP) working group and to facilitate better understanding of roles and responsibilities of State Actors. A meeting with airport operators was also organized to present the activity on the SAP, the tasks and responsibilities in the following months, the importance of having an appointed focal point representing top management engagement in the implementation of the selected mitigation measures as well as in facilitating the share of data required by ICAO to fill in the different parts of the document.
